GE Aviation

Asheville, North Carolina

BL Harbert International was contracted by GE Aviation to design and build a $18.5 million manufacturing facility in Asheville, NC, next to the company’s existing machining plant. The 175,000-square-foot facility was built in only nine months, despite several major obstacles, including a month of weather delays and the balanced management of multiple project stakeholders, including the City of Asheville and Buncombe County.

The Advanced Composites Manufacturing Facility is unique in several aspects. Not only is it the first design-build project in the state of North Carolina, it is also the very first facility to accommodate mass production of GE’s revolutionary aircraft engine material known as Ceramic Matrix Composite (CMC).
