On the afternoon of April 4, 2018, BL Harbert International alongside the Government of Guatemala and the U.S. Government, participated in a ceremony to celebrate the start of construction for the New Embassy Compound (NEC) in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
U.S. Ambassador Luis Arreaga addressed inauguration attendees by saying the NEC “demonstrates our continuous commitment with the people of Guatemala to work together towards a country that has good governance, security, and prosperity for all Guatemalans.” The U.S. established diplomatic relations with Guatemala almost 200 years ago, 194 years to be exact, and has maintained an embassy in Guatemala City continuously since 1882.
The model of the structures and surroundings show the team’s commitment to preserving the environment. This ecological design is important to the Embassy and results in a massive earthwork project for BLHI. Once complete, the NEC will be one of the first LEED certified buildings in Guatemala.
