Every member of the Nashville team is currently working with the VA in some capacity: in the way of pursuits, onsite management, and support. When we stopped to think about where we wanted to give back this year through our Harbert Holiday Hope outreach project, the choice was obvious: the VA. There is no more deserving group of men and women than our veterans who served to protect our freedoms at home and abroad.
Before we arrived, we found out the veterans that are currently being treated include cancer, dialysis, mental health, general surgery, hospice, and prosthetic patients. As we visited, it was very clear a large number of them were facing their journeys alone. The volunteer coordinator told us most of these patients are simply longing for a caring voice, an ear to listen, and a smile to give them hope.
Which is why, to help brighten their day, our team was able to shop for, put together and deliver over 200 gift bags that were filled with various snacks, drinks, and puzzles for each resident. Delivering them room to room gave us an avenue to start a conversation with these wonderful men and women, thank them for their service, and provide them some much-appreciated company. As we talked with patients and walked the halls, you could feel the mood around the hospital shift. It was overwhelming and undeniable.
Thank you to all of the Nashville Team for all the hard work to put a smile on a veteran’s face this Christmas.
