Breaking Ground on the Animal Care and Control Facility

Recently, BL Harbert broke ground on a new animal control facility in Birmingham, Alabama.

The facility begins the first phase of a new campus to care for domesticated animals in the community. The Greater Birmingham Humane Society, which manages animal control services for the County, will raise funds for, and construct adjacent to this facility, a new adoption and veterinary medical facility making it a true campus of compassion for animals that need treatment and help finding a home.

The Animal Care and Control Facility’s design creates a larger, more modern environment for animal care. The facility includes a lobby, dedicated kitten and puppy areas, kennels for up to 448 dogs and over 100 cats, 6-dedicated play yards, a sallyport/intake area, a quarantine area for disease control, treatment rooms, grooming area, and a warehouse. In addition, there will be director and staff offices, dispatch offices, and veterinary staff areas.  The Animal Care Facility is scheduled to be completed in November 2025.
