The Department of State and BL Harbert International Dedicate the New U.S. Consulate General in Matamoros, Mexico
In a display of our enduring friendship and important partnership with Mexico, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires John S. Creamer, Consul General Neda Brown, and Director of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO) Addison D. “Tad” Davis IV, along with the Governor of the State of Tamaulipas, Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca, and Mayor of the City of Matamoros, Mario López Hernández, dedicated the new U.S. Consulate General in Matamoros, Mexico, today.
The new complex provides a secure, modern, sustainable, and resilient platform for U.S. diplomacy in Mexico and is on target to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Gold certification – a globally recognized leading mark of achievement in high performance, best-in-class, green buildings.
Richärd+Bauer Architecture of Phoenix, Arizona, is the design architect for the project and Page of Washington, D.C., is the architect of record. BL Harbert International of Birmingham, Alabama, constructed the facility.
Since the start of the Department’s Capital Security Construction Program in 1999, OBO has completed 157 new diplomatic facilities and has an additional 59 projects in design or under construction.
OBO provides safe, secure, functional, and resilient facilities that represent the U.S. government to the host nation and support our staff in the achievement of U.S. foreign policy objectives.
