Veterans Affairs project marks completion of highest cast-in-place concrete levels

On April 28, 2015, BL Harbert International celebrated a significant milestone at the Veterans Affairs Clinic and Parking Garage in Birmingham, Alabama. A topping out ceremony commemorated the completion of the highest cast-in-place concrete levels on the Parking Garage structure.

During the ceremony, the construction team erected a pine tree, an American flag, a POW/MIA Veterans flag and an Alabama flag on the highest point of the parking garage to mark this achievement. Approximately 200 people attended the ceremony and enjoyed fellowship over lunch.

“This new VA Facility will provide ease of access and a new state of the art medical clinic for our Veterans who have sacrificed so much for each of us. The late Bill Harbert, Sr. was a Veteran of World War II and he would have been extremely proud of this facility, the services it will provide and the fact that BL Harbert International is serving as the general contractor,” states Gary W. Savage, President of BL Harbert’s U.S. Group.

The new VA Annex project will feature a 68,000-square-foot, Outpatient Services Clinic and an eight story, 2,334-space Parking Garage. The new healthcare facility, located near the Red Mountain Expressway between University Boulevard and 7th Avenue South in Birmingham’s medical district, is expected to encourage revitalization in the area.

BL Harbert broke ground on the facility in April of 2014. Following this milestone, the construction team will finalize construction of the interiors of the clinic and parking garage with an anticipated turnover by October 2015.

Serving as the general contractor, BL Harbert International is partnering with developers The Molasky Group and Graham & Company. Page designed the facility which will be completed by the end of this year.
