The Starship 4420 project consisted of multiple areas of work within a nearly 300,000-square-foot, interconnected facility on a 10-acre site. These IET barracks commonly referred to as “Starships” combine living, training, and administrative/command operations into a single facility.
Deteriorating Complex
BL Harbert was tasked with renovating the 35+ year structure on differing site conditions. Work included selective structural demolition; implementation of measures to correct exterior building envelop concerns; demolition and replacement of all architectural components and MEP systems; and removal of 3 stories of architectural pre-cast exterior and replacement with metal framing and EIFS system.
Fast Track
Site demolition and subsequent construction of a running track was located on a separate site. Our team completed design, demolition, and construction of the track 10 months before the contract completion date, allowing the Army to put the facilities into operation significantly ahead of schedule.
