Alabama 4-H Environmental Science Education Center

Columbiana, Alabama

The Alabama 4-H Environmental Science Education Center provides an interactive, hands-on facility geared towards teaching students the importance of conserving natural resources and protecting the environment.

The Education Center is a two-story, 17,500-square-foot building. The Lodging Addition is a three-story, 12,000-square-foot addition to the existing facility. The project is the first LEED Gold Certified facility in the state of Alabama. The natural stone façade, accented by transitions to wood siding, Exterior Insulated Finish System (EIFS), and storefront windows, blends naturally with the woodland surroundings of the 4-H campus. A wooden observation pier stretching 80 feet past the building along with rough cedar “half round” posts extending diagonally from stone-wrapped columns to the roof line are elements that contribute to the rustic appearance of the structure.
