Electrical Engineer

B.L. Harbert International is looking for an Electrical Engineer to work with the International Group in Birmingham, Alabama. The position is responsible for the support of International construction project sites’ electrical department/scope. Communication is at the center of the position, employee will need to share lessons learned and issues at hand for team resolutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Understand the contractual requirement and ensure the site team complies with the electrical scope
  • Assist in project electrical design review with requests for information, specifications review or design meetings with the owner
  • Assist in selection and procurement of engineered systems such as switchgears, panel boards, lighting package, and generator sets etc.
  • Assist in generating submittals on equipment and material used on the project sites
  • Assist in generating electrical change orders
  • Meet/teleconference with the project electrical engineer counterpart to manage schedule of equipment shipping, site progress, technical or contractual issues
  • Liaise and communicate between site and U.S. vendors about delivery schedules and technical information, troubleshooting, startup and commissioning schedules
  • Attend training on equipment or systems that would benefit in troubleshooting and competitive buy out
  • Learn and understand electrical systems in order to justify the design or support the project site’s installation tasks

Requirements
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the US Government
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 2 years’ experience in the electrical field
  • Ability to travel internationally for site visits (less than 3 trips/yr less than 2 weeks/trip)
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Drive and personal initiative
  • Ability to work independently
Preferences
Preferences:
  • Experience in commercial construction means and methods
  • Experience in NEMA, UL listed electrical material
  • Experience in U.S. government contracts
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or REVIT
